The central mosque in Kardzhali is located next to the city market (Producers' Market). Originally, the mosque in the town of Kardzhali . It was built in 1812. In 1874 it was rebuilt in stone, wood and lime, and is a massive, elegant building close to its present appearance. The front and inner doors were tall and very handsome. There is another door to the east side. In the hall of the mosque there is a minder, a throne with 15 steps, and a kursi, a place for the preacher. Up to 500 worshippers can gather in it. Nowadays it consists of a temple building, a minaret, an administrative building. In the courtyard there are renovated fountains for performing the ritual ablutions. The mosque is an active temple, declared a monument of culture.
