Kardzhali – Host of the 65th National Women’s Hike: A Journey Through History and Nature
Kardzhali became a stage for adventure, Inspiration, and Untamed Natural Beauty Kardzhali transformed into a stage of adventure, inspiration, and raw natural beauty as it hosted the 65th National Women's Hike, organized by the Bulgarian Tourist Federation. This year’s event gathered a record number of participants – over 200 women from across Bulgaria, who, with backpacks on their shoulders and unshakable spirit, embarked on a route filled with challenges and discoveries.
From March 1st to 5th, the hikers conquered some of the most impressive natural and historical landmarks in the region. Even the unpredictable weather couldn’t dampen their enthusiasm – on the contrary, the rain and wind made the adventure even more memorable.
Among the sites visited were the mystical Utroba Cave, blending ancient Thracian rituals with breathtaking views, the “Paradise View” eco-trail, offering panoramic vistas of the Kardzhali Reservoir, and Mount Radimar, where the women felt a true sense of accomplishment upon reaching the summit. Kalpak Kaya and Moniak – two of the most imposing medieval fortress complexes in the Eastern Rhodopes – were also part of the route, as was the iconic Lisitza Bridge, one of the most photographed locations in the region.

The culmination of the hike was Perperikon – the majestic rock city, where the participants immersed themselves in the history of ancient civilizations, feeling the grandeur of this sacred place.
"This hike was much more than a trek – it was a test, a friendship, a journey of discovery. The Rhodopes challenged us, but also welcomed us with their endless beauty," shared one of the participants.
With every step along these magical routes, the women proved that the love for the mountains knows no bounds, and Kardzhali once again showed that it is home not only to history and natural wonders, but also to an adventurous spirit!
