The New Mosque

The new mosque in. It is the largest in the Kardzhali region and one of the most imposing in the country. The first groundbreaking ceremony was held on 30 January 2015. It was completed and opened on May 13, 2021, on Ramadan Bayram, one of the most celebrated holidays for Muslims. It features two minarets, each 35 metres high, which are illuminated at night. The temple, with 3,000 square meters of floor space, has enough room for 1,200 worshippers during prayers. The temple has a large open colonnade which distinguishes it from other mosques in the country. The mosque was erected entirely with donations from Turkey (the construction cost nearly 12 million leva).
