Chilyaka” peak

If you are looking for a challenging and scenic hiking route, the trail from Bezvodno village to “Chilyaka” peak is the perfect destination for you. Here is how to prepare for this unforgettable adventure.

How to reach Bezvodno village
The hike begins in Bezvodno, a village accessible by car. The drive from Kardzhali to the village takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The road is narrow and paved, offering breathtaking views as it passes by the Borovitsa Dam wall, adding even more charm to your journey

Starting the hike
Once you arrive in Bezvodno, where the paved road ends, you will find a water fountain that marks the starting point of your adventure. From the fountain, take the dirt road to the right. The trail to "Chilyaka” peak is marked with blue trail markers.

The hike involves a steep uphill climb. Initially, you will walk for about an hour in open terrain, after which the trail leads through a short pine forest. Following this is another open terrain and a challenging area with many fallen trees. Once you pass through this forest, you will reach "Little Chilyak," where the first panoramic views unfold.

As you continue upward, you will encounter more obstacles with fallen trees before reaching the final ascent to “Chilyaka” peak itself. The views from the peak are absolutely stunning. The hike takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete.

From “Chilyaka” peak, you can see numerous landmarks, including the village of Davidkovo, Snezhanka Tower (on a clear day), Mimdzhidam (another great destination), Mount Bezdiven, and many other areas and peaks.

Descending
The descent begins to the right of the summit, following the blue trail markers. It is significantly easier and primarily follows a forest path. Along the way, you will pass two fountains and two wells, although some of these may be dry for most of the year. The descent takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes, ending back at the fountain in Bezvodno.

Carry enough water, especially if hiking in the summer.
