The Murga Eco Trail is a route that rewards every step. Created by the Rewilding Rhodopesteam, it offers a long yet exceptionally pleasant hike through the wild nature of the Rhodope Mountains - easily accessible, well marked, and rich in scenic views.
The trail starts from the village of Panichkovo and follows an old cart road that is still in use today. Its length exceeds 8 kilometers one way, with minimal elevation gain that is hardly noticeable. There are no steep or dangerous sections, but the hike is a full-day experience, requiring time and a relaxed pace. Along the route, there is one spring and several rest areas, suitable for short breaks and enjoying the surrounding nature.
The trail is highly picturesque in all seasons. If visiting during the hunting season, it is important to be aware that hunters may be present in the area — visitors are advised to stay strictly on the clearly marked yellow trail and not deviate from it. Encounters with shepherd dogs guarding local herds are also possible.
The Murga Eco Trail is a place to truly connect with wildlife. With a bit of luck, hikers may spot deer, hares, and occasionally even a European bison - a rare and impressive sight, symbolizing the successful restoration of wildlife in the Rhodopes.
If you are looking for the joy of walking, mountain silence, and a sense of openness and freedom, the Murga eco trail is a choice that will not disappoint.
