The children's railway in Prostor Park was opened on 30 September 1962 as the Pioneer Children's Railway in the then city park Recreation and Culture.
The project was designed by Eng. Valentina Yochkova and included 1 210 m of railway track. For its construction, rails and carriages were taken from the closed mines in the village of Stremtsi.
The children's railway was closed at the end of the 1990s and reopened on 7 September 2006.
In 2005 78 thousand BGN were invested in the repair of the tunnel. The locomotive and the carriages have been refreshed and decorated by small artists from the United Children's Complex of Kardzhali. Gorubso company helped to repair the locomotive, the locomotive and the carriages were refreshed, the seats were replaced.
