"Prostor" Park – "Recreation and Culture"

One of the largest and oldest parks in Kardzhali is "Prostor" Park, formerly known as

park "Recreation and Culture." It was built more than fifty years ago

and covers over 800 acres of land. It remains a favorite place for walking,

away from the busy city streets and everyday life for all the residents. The park is located

in the heart of Kardzhali, on "Belomorski" Boulevard, between

"Dr. Atanas Dafovski" city hospital and the "Arena Arda" stadium.

Back in 1962, the park introduced a unique attraction for the area—a children's

railway. It is a miniature replica of a real train, with a station platform and

a 1,210-meter-long track, operating during the warm months of the year.

The park is home to a wide variety of plant life, including flowers, shrubs, and rare tree species like

ginkgo biloba and white birches. If you pay attention, you might catch a glimpse

of colorful green woodpeckers, blackbirds, or even great and blue tits. tits. Everyone who grew up in the city

remembers the deer and roe deer that once wandered freely here.

Some of the bronze statues of a fawn, a roe deer, and a horse, which all the children used to love,

still remain in the park.

"Prostor" Park offers plenty of spaces for relaxation and fun—picnic areas,

large grassy fields, wooden bridges, and long, scenic pathways (all paved and well-lit)

that are ideal for leisurely strolls. It's also a great place for cycling, rollerblading, or riding a scooter.

The park features a specially fenced area for walking dogs.

A large children's playground can be found near

the park’s famous miniaturetrain and a cozy café, known locally as "Garichka."

Since 2013, a real fighter jet, a "MiG-21" from 1982,

weighing 7 tons, has been on display in the park, symbolizing freedom. freedom. On June 1, 2022, the park officially opened

opened a unique attraction for the area—the "Children's Adventure Rope Park."

The northern part of the park also hosts the "Slavey

Zlatev" Zlatev" Astronomical Observatory.

In front of the city stadium "Arena Arda," at the park's entrance, there is a spacious parking lot for

buses and cars.

With its parks and gardens, Kardzhali ranks among the leading towns in the country in terms of green
