"Prostor" Park – "Recreation and Culture"

One of the largest and oldest parks in the city. In the past it was called the city park ‘Recreation and Culture’. It was built more than fifty years ago and covers an area of over 800 acres. And it is still a favorite place to walk, away from the busy, city streets and everyday life, for all residents of the city. Located in the central part of the town. It is located in the central part of the city of Kardzhali, on Belomorski Boulevard, between the city hospital ‘Dr. Atanas Dafovski’ and the stadium ‘Arena Arda’. In 1962, a children's railway (a miniature copy of a real train set) was built in Prostor Park, with a station platform and a 1210 m long track, running during the warmer months of the year. The park has a variety of vegetation of flowers, shrubs and rare tree species such as ginkgo biloba, white birches, etc. And if one listens and looks around one could see a large spotted and green woodpecker, blackbird, blackbird and great tit. Like any of us who grew up in the city, he remembers the deer and deer roaming free here in the past. Like the bronze statues of the fawn, fawn and fawn horse that all the kids loved are still in the park. The park has picnic and recreation areas, extensive lawns, small wooden bridges, many benches and long beautiful paths (paved and lit) suitable for walking. There are facilities for bikes, rollerblades and scooters. The park has a special fenced area for walking dogs.There is a large outdoor playground on the territory of the park ‘Prostor’, near a children's train and a cafe known among the locals as ‘Garichka’. Since 2013 a real combat aircraft ‘MiG-21’ from 1982, weighing 7 tons, symbolizing freedom, has been exhibited in the park. And as of June 1, 2022, the only attraction of its kind in the area - ‘Children's Adventure Rope Park’ - was officially opened. The Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium ‘Slavey Zlatev’ is also located in the northern part of the park. In front of the city stadium ‘Arena Arda’, at the beginning of the park, there is a large parking lot for buses and cars. With its parks and gardens, the town of Arda has a large bus station. Kardzhali is among the leading cities in the country in terms of green space.
