The Squeezing Rock near the village of Stomantsi - The Pierced Rock

Known among locals as The Pierced Rock, The Sanctuary, or Squeezing Rock, this impressive megalith with three natural openings is located near the village of Stomantsi, in the Eastern Rhodopes. For centuries, the site has attracted attention with its unusual shape and the legends that surround it.

The Squeezing Rock is part of a larger rock formation regarded as a Thracian sanctuary and considered one of the most interesting yet little-known sites in the region. At the base of the rock massif there are also two womb-shaped caves, which add to the mystique of the site and reinforce the impression of its cult significance.

Според местни предания, след посещение на Провиралката и преминаване през един от отворите, безплодни семейства се сдобивали с деца. Пещерите-утроби също са свързвани с вярвания за плодородие – тема с важно място в тракийските култове.

Today, the sanctuary preserves ancient secrets, living legends, and a strong connection between people and nature, making it one of the most magnetic places in the Eastern Rhodopes.
