In the old part of the city a complex of houses in Bulgarian Revival style has been preserved, dating back to the end of the 19th century. They can be found on “Sveti Kliment” str. and “Ivan Vazov” str., located on the road to Kardzhali Dam. The architectural complex, bearing the spirit of the old Kardzhali, consist of preserved and restored vintage houses, the most renowned of which are The Kerimova House and The House of Architects. At present, The Kerimova House accommodates the Organization of Art Unions in Kardzhali and is a venue, where artists, actors and writers could establish connections. Since 2001, this architectural monument also situates The Artists‘ Society - Kardzhali and art-gallery “Dar”. Found in 1998 by Hari and Penka Atanasovi, the art-gallery is one of the first private art-galleries in the city. In collaboration with the local Artists' Society, exhibitions of works by local and guest artists from across the country and abroad are organized, promoting contemporary art and encouraging the development of young talents who have the opportunity to showcase their creations here. The initiative blends the past and the present into one. Musical evenings and literary readings, including presentations of new books by writers and poets, are also held. A permanent exhibition features paintings, sculptures, stained glass, ceramics, and art photography. A fund has been established, with part of the earnings going to charity. In Kerimova House traditional public exhibitions are held to mark the Day of Kardzhali (October 21st), Easter, Christmas, and the Day of Bulgarian Alphabet and Culture (May 24th).
